This book was first published in 1976 and this is a re-issue As the authors report in the preamble, the publication is „thought as a frame or skeleton in which the main literary genres of the period are said to be briefly shared“.

The book is largely materially unchanged from the previous edition, but has been enhanced by the visuals and bibliographies.
